Roam vs. Obsidian: Which One to Choose?
6 Criteria to make the right choice
Roam and Obsidian are two famous bi-directional note-taking apps.
Both of them have their fanbase. Both of them have pros and cons.
And you may be asking yourself: which app to choose to get started?
In this article, I’ll give you the 6 most important comparison points so that you can make the right choice.
1: Roam vs. Obsidian: The file system
Roam Research has its own proprietary file system. Obsidian uses plain text files.
Which means that Obsidian is way more future proof than Roam Research. Why? Simply because every computer can open plain text files.
Even in 50 years from now.
On the flip side, we don’t have any guarantee that Roam will still be here.
(However, Roam allows you to manually export your notes. So you can figure out a way to implement a manual “backup routine” in case you’d like to make Roam your Digital Zettelkasten home.)
